The Plus and Minus of Appreciation

So it's yesterday's news, but the Maltese contingent of 19 athletes that participated in the Special Olympics held in Shangai, China, returned home with a staggering 33 medals. That's an average of 1.74 medals per competitor. Considering that just between the Chinese and US atheletes there were over 1500 participants, the result is nothing short of gargantuan.

Shame on The Times of Malta who throughout the entire competition only devoted a small paragraph to the event, and this wasn't even included in the sports section. They covered the athletes' triumphant return to Malta; but it could have been much more. It was a commendable result, equal to Michael Mifsud's heroics a few weeks back.

And now for something completely different. Kudos to the emerging crop of female bus drivers. I have come across two till now and they were excellent. Not only as far as guts are concerned (being pioneers in a largely sweaty, male-dominated milieu) but even performancewise. And it is nice to see old ladies patting them on the back and telling them 'prosit' as they are getting off the bus.
